본 프로젝트는 용산어린이정원 내 야외 공간에 조성된 체험형 전시의 기획 및 공간 디자인으로, 어린이들이 자연 속에서 놀이와 체험을 통해 사회와 역사적 가치를 쉽고 즐겁게 접할 수 있도록 설계된 공공 문화 프로젝트이다. 정원이라는 열린 공간의 성격을 적극 반영하여, 단순한 시각적 관람을 넘어 참여와 창의적 활동을 중심으로 한 복합적인 전시 환경을 조성하였다.

전시의 전반적인 디자인은 어린이의 눈높이에 맞춘 밝고 생동감 있는 색채와 도형 기반의 구조를 중심으로 구성되었으며, 누구나 편안하게 접근할 수 있는 유기적인 동선과 쉼터 배치를 통해 야외 공간의 개방성을 극대화하였다. 각 공간은 다양한 참여 방식을 통해 어린이들이 주도적으로 전시에 몰입하고, 놀이를 통해 자연스럽게 메시지를 체득할 수 있도록 설계되었다.

전시는 총 네 개의 주요 구역으로 구성된다. 첫 번째 공간인 ‘함께 만드는 길’에서는 세계 여러 인물들의 희망적인 메시지를 인용하여, 어린이들이 긍정적인 상상과 미래에 대한 꿈을 키울 수 있도록 유도하였다. 이어지는 ‘자유의 글 짓기’ 구역에서는 낱말 자석을 활용한 문장 만들기 체험을 통해, 아이들이 자신의 생각을 표현하고 소통하는 창의적인 경험을 할 수 있도록 하였다.

‘미래의 역사’ 구역은 구조물과 함께 이어지는 사진 콘텐츠를 통해 사회적 활동과 공동체의 의미를 자연스럽게 이해할 수 있도록 구성하였으며, 단순한 정보 전달을 넘어 어린이 스스로 우리 사회의 역할과 책임에 대해 상상해볼 수 있도록 유도하였다. 마지막 ‘동행의 놀이터’에서는 미니 스포츠 활동을 통해 신체적 움직임과 놀이가 결합된 전시 경험을 제공하며, 전시 공간을 생동감 있는 놀이의 장으로 확장하였다.

이 전시는 놀이, 체험, 학습이 유기적으로 융합된 야외 전시의 새로운 모델로서, 어린이들에게는 의미 있는 사회적 경험을, 공원을 찾은 시민들에게는 누구나 자유롭게 참여할 수 있는 열린 문화 공간으로서의 가치를 제안하였다.

미인터내셔날은 본 프로젝트를 통해 공공 공간에서의 전시 기획이 일상 속 사용자 경험과 어떻게 유기적으로 연결될 수 있는지를 실현하고자 하였으며, 앞으로도 어린이를 위한 문화 콘텐츠의 확장 가능성을 지속적으로 모색해 나갈 것이다.

This project, designed by MEE International, is an experiential exhibition situated within the outdoor grounds of Yongsan Children’s Garden—a public cultural initiative created to foster engagement, learning, and joy in a natural setting.

Conceived as an interactive space where children can explore social and historical values through play, the exhibition moves beyond passive viewing to offer a richly layered, participatory environment.

Drawing inspiration from the open, inclusive nature of a garden, the design emphasizes creative expression and exploration through color, form, and spatial narrative. Bright, dynamic structures at child-friendly scales are complemented by intuitive circulation and resting areas, enhancing accessibility and comfort while maximizing the openness of the landscape.

The exhibition comprises four key zones: “The Path We Build Together,” where children are introduced to messages of hope from global figures, encouraging dreams and imagination; “Freedom to Write,” a space for sentence-making using magnetic words, promoting creative expression and communication; “Histories of Tomorrow,” where photographs and architectural elements guide children to consider social roles and collective responsibility; and “Playground of Companionship,” which integrates movement and sport to turn the exhibition into a space of active, joyful engagement.

As a model for outdoor exhibitions where play, learning, and culture merge seamlessly, this project offers meaningful experiences for children while positioning the garden as an open cultural space for all visitors. Through this work, MEE International demonstrates how public exhibition design can be organically woven into everyday life and continues to explore new possibilities for cultural content that supports the imagination and agency of the next generation.
