율촌어린이학교는 어린이들을 대상으로 숲, 자연, 그리고 생태계와 인간의 함께함의 중요함을 교육하고 알려주며, 어린이들이 다양한 자연 체험을 할 수 있도록 지원함을 목표로 한 공간이다.

율촌재단 어린이학교는 놀이공간, 교육공간, 쿠킹클래스 등 다양한 공간 프로그램들을 구성하고, 외부 자연과 연결된 테마와 주제를 다채롭게 교육한다. 모든 내부공간 디자인과 가구디자인들은 이러한 교육프로그램을 기반으로 씨앗의 발아과정을 모티브로 디자인 되었다. 

교육실의 라이트 박스 테이블은 외부 자연 체험 활동 중 가져온 식물의 일부분을 따라 그려보기, 씨앗에서 열매까지의 성장 과정 그리기 등의 교육을 진행하는 조명의 ON/Off가 가능한 가구이다. 라이트 박스 테이블은 무선 사용 가능하며, 사용하지 않을 때 벽면 수납장에서 보관 및 충전될 수 있다.

교육실의 벽면 모듈 테이블은 작은 공간에 어른들의 회의 공간을 구성하기 위하여 디자인된 벽면식 변형 회의 테이블이다. 쿠킹클래스의 어린이 모듈테이블 가구는 각 클래스의 성격에 맞도록 다양한 모듈의 형태로 사용할 수 있도록 디자인 되었다. 부모님이 대기할 수 있는 공간의 가구들 또한 기본적인 형태에서 씨앗의 발아되는 과정을 다채롭게 표현하고 다양하게 변형되도록 디자인되었다.

Incubating Children's Dream -The Story of Youlchon Children's School

​

The objective of the Youlchon children’s school is to educate children about natural spaces such as forests and allow students to experience nature first-hand. The school teaches the importance of a symbiotic relationship between humans and the ecosystem. It is a place for children to experience and learn about nature.

 

Designer Soyool Jang's concept for the design of Youlchon was based on a seed, which is the starting point for many things that exist in nature. There are many steps to the process of a single seed becoming a sprawling forest of a thousand acres. For the design of the space and the furniture, the idea of a germinating seed growing and expanding from within to the world outside is reinterpreted.

Youlchon Children’s School has a curriculum containing many themes and subjects related to nature and the outdoors. These include a play area, study area, and diverse programs such as cooking classes. The germinating seed motif is evident throughout.

 

The furniture in the parents' waiting area is vibrantly designed in keeping with the seed germination motif. Such designs allow for flexibility in form.

 

The lightbox tables in the classroom are functional with an on/off light switch. They are wireless and can be recharged in their storage pods on the wall when not in use. They are used to illustrate the growth process of a plant from seed to fruit. Students can also use them to draw parts of the plants that they have gathered from outdoor sessions.

The modular table against the wall is a convertible table designed to enable meetings within a limited space. 

 

The kids' modular table can accommodate the various needs of different types and sizes of classes. 

 

Soyool Jang of the spatial design studio MEEINT designed the interior spaces and furniture for Youlchon Children's School. The architect of the building is Gwanghyun Kim.
